Our work in Rajasthan
Many people don't have access to a consistent source of affordable, nutritious food in rural Rajasthan, a desert region with unpredictable rainfall made worse by climate change. There’s been little investment in agriculture infrastructure, and people cannot depend on the fruits of their harvest for sustenance. COVID-19 has made circumstances more difficult for families who live in poverty.
Impact - We work in partnership with Mewar Food Assistance Society, a NGO based in Rajasthan to distribute food packets. In 2020, we distributed 3,251 food packets, providing 13,004 people with 91,028 meals. In 2021, we distributed 10,726 food packets, providing 42,904 people with 300,328 meals.
Goals - To continue to serve more people by extending our geographic reach and increasing the number of weekly food packets we deliver.
Our work in Detroit
Across the United States, nearly 1 in 4 households experienced food insecurity in 2020. While poverty, unemployment and food insecurity are existing problems in Detroit, the pandemic has exacerbated them. The metro Detroit area has organizations committed to addressing these issues. Hunger Relief is developing partnerships with some of them to volunteer our time and provide food.
Impact - We partner with Detroit Friendship House, Zelphia’s Community Kitchen, Community Service Community Development, and Zaman International to provide fresh produce and meals.
Goals - To support the work of existing partners and to foster new partnerships in order to directly reach vulnerable populations.
